How we started
Red Soap Company was born in the year 2001. Though, my love of all things "bath related" started way earlier. As a child, if I was missing, inevitably I would be found floating in a bath tub, probably having been there for hours and shriveled up like a prune. I loved smelly soap, bath beads and anything you could dump into bath water. This love never ended and by the time I was a sophomore hippie at Kansas University, I figured I would give this homemade soap stuff a shot (not knowing how much I would grow to love it). That weekend, I surprised my poor mother by dragging lye and other miscellaneous soap crafting items back home, and announced that I would be making a batch of soap. Her reaction (as a typical nurse) was similar to if I had announced that I would be opening a meth lab in her kitchen. Needless to say, after several failed batches, MUCH product testing and 12 years of practice, we have gotten this soap making thing down!
Since that time, many of my family memebers have gotten addicted to homemade soap. My mother has found that she has skin allergies to many store bought soaps that cause her hands to blister and peel. Handcrafted soaps have been, thankfully, gentle on her hands. My sister loves all products that are natural and handcrafted for herself and her passel of kids. There is a value in knowing what you are buying and the care that goes into making it. Plus, the kids love the fun colors and scents our soaps come in as an added bonus. Which means they love to take baths!
Coming up with a name for my company was a challenge. My father had always called me "Red", due to my red hair. From that nickname came "Red's Soap" and has stuck around for many years while building the legacy of what is now "Red Soap Company".
I am so thankful every day that God has put my awesome husband, Zachary, in my life. I have been so blessed with meeting one of the most wonderful, supportive, patient and creative men I have ever met. With his encouragement and support, Red Soap Company has gone from a seasonal soap making company to making soap year-round.
Red Soap Company would not be where it is today, without it's loyal customers and the support from our many family members. A special thanks goes out to Jeannine McClellan, my mother, for all the hard work she puts in to help get all of our soap made!
Hope you enjoy our soap as much as we do!
